Handling Personal Data in Research (GDPR) Online

On Monday February 17, the Research Data Office is organizing a webinar for researchers, PhD candidates, and (research) support staff about the careful handling of personal data in research. Guestspeaker is Pam Dupont, Central Privacy Officer of Tilburg University.

Why attend this webinar?

If you collect personal data during your research, you need to be aware of the rules of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and how you can do your research in compliance with its rules.

What is covered in this webinar?

During the webinar, the Privacy Officer explains the different types of personal data, important rules of the GDPR, and the implications that these rules have on your research through the complete research cycle. A few of the topics that are covered in the webinar:

  • Legal grounds for processing and using (special) personal data
  • When is a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) necessary?
  • Informing participants clearly about data processing
  • Pseudonymization versus anonymization
  • The risk of potential data breaches and protecting the data
  • Implications of various type of datasets

The training is free of charge and open to PhD candidates, (senior) researchers, and (research) support staff. Please note that the session will not be recorded, but the slides will be shared with participants afterward. At the end of the session there is room for questions in the Q&A.
