How to Make Use of AI within Academic Research: A Tutorial about the OpenAI API In-Person / Online
In this tutorial, we will go a step further than just using ChatGPT and make use of the models behind it. You’ll learn how to use OpenAI’s API. As Tilburg.ai we will guide you through the process. We will be coding, but with step-by-step help and ready-to-use code snippets, so you can keep up even with little or no coding experience.
By the end of this tutorial, you will be able to:
- Make API calls to GPT-4 and all of OpenAI’s latest models.
- Automatically transcribe recordings using Whisper.
- Build a basic question-answering system using your own datasets and OpenAI’s embeddings model.
You’ll leave with working examples and a practical foundation for using AI in your own research.
Guidelines for use of AI in research:
While GenAI offers many advantages, it also poses some risks and implications that researchers must carefully consider. Therefore, as a researcher, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the existing Tilburg University guidelines for the use of AI in research. Attached below are three documents outlining guidelines, use cases, and dos and don'ts.
