Day 1: Getting Started with R for Data Analysis In-Person

New to R or programming in general? This beginner-friendly full-day workshop is for you.

This hands-on introduction to R is designed for researchers  who are just starting out with coding. We’ll take it step by step, assuming no prior experience, and focus on building confidence using R and RStudio for basic data analysis tasks.

By the end of the session, you’ll understand the basics of:

  • Navigating RStudio and writing R code

  • Working with data using tidyverse tools

  • Performing simple summaries and exploring your data

This session is based on the R for Social Sciences Data Carpentry lesson and is ideal if you’re looking for a slower-paced, supportive introduction to working with data in R.

Who should attend: Anyone who’s new to R or programming — especially if you’ve never used a coding tool for data before.

What to bring: A laptop and charger
Format: Live, hands-on coding workshop
Experience level: No prior coding experience required

Connection with Day 2: Doing Your Stats in R (for SPSS Users and Other Newcomers)

You can register for either day on its own, or attend both:

  • Day 1 is a slower, full-day introduction to R and coding concepts

  • Day 2 is a shorter, slightly faster-paced session focused on doing data analysis in R

Choose the one that best fits your needs or join both.
