Day 2: Doing Your Stats in R (for SPSS Users & Other Newcomers) In-Person

Looking to switch from SPSS to R for your data analysis? This half-day workshop is for you.

This beginner-friendly session is aimed at researchers who may already be familiar with basic statistical workflows in SPSS and want to learn how to perform similar tasks in R. We’ll move at a slightly faster pace than Day 1 and focus on using R for practical data analysis and statistical tasks.

By the end of this session, you’ll be able to:

  • Navigate RStudio

  • Import and clean data in R

  • Calculate summary statistics and create exploratory visualizations

  • Run basic statistical tests (e.g., t-tests, correlations)

  • Start building R workflows to support your research

This session builds on concepts introduced in Day 1 but can also be taken independently if you’re comfortable diving in a bit more quickly.

Who should attend: SPSS or Excel users who want to learn R, or anyone with basic data experience who wants to do statistical analysis using code.

What to bring: A laptop and charger
Experience level: Some familiarity with basic stats or spreadsheet-based data work could be helpful, but it is not required to participate.

Connection with Day 1: Getting started with R for Data Analysis

You can register for either day on its own, or attend both:

  • Day 1 is a slower, full-day introduction to R and coding concepts

  • Day 2 is a shorter, slightly faster-paced session focused on doing data analysis in R

Choose the one that best fits your needs or join both.
